DESIGN

MGH Ellison 14 Burn ICU
Firm: NBBJ, Boston Studio
Role: Project Architect
Overview
This project involves the renovation of approximately 1,450 SF within an existing Burn ICU, including the conversion of three ICU rooms, the addition of two ADA-compliant restrooms, expanded storage, the relocation of Biomed, and upgrades to the nurse station and documentation areas. The design aligns with existing rooms on the same floor while minimizing disruptions to departments located directly below the renovation site.

Specialty Equipment
Careful mechanical, electrical, and plumbing coordination was required to accommodate the specialty equipment inside each patient room. Structural coordination for the ceiling boom supports was required to ensure proper clearance around other ceiling fixtures.

Patient Safety
Each patient room is identical for optimizing operational efficiency and ensuring quality patient care. Breakaway glass doors separate the patient bed and staff workstation, so that there may be separate "micro-environments" within the same patient room.

Under Construction!
This project has a quick turn-around and is currently under construction! Updates TBD.
