The Jackson Laboratory Vivarium
Firm: EYP, Boston
Role: Architectural Designer
Overview
This project involved the retrofit and interior fit-out of a former Lowe’s building to accommodate a state-of-the-art commercial vivarium for Jackson Laboratory. The scope included a subtle façade redesign and landscape enhancements at the main entrance to align with the Owner’s brand identity.
Inside, the facility features a welcoming lobby, office and conference spaces, a kitchenette, and a lounge area for staff. The vivarium itself includes anterooms, showers, and designated clean and dirty egress pathways to ensure biosecurity. An interstitial floor houses automation equipment, facilitating the seamless transport of cages to and from the cleaning and sterilization rooms while maintaining separation from staff circulation routes.
